Daughter of a cart-puller and a housemaid, Rani's journey started with the determination of escaping extreme poverty and the confidence to make it to the Indian Hockey Team team one day.
From playing with a broken stick and not being able to afford two square meals a day to leading the Indian Hockey Team to Olympic semis in 2021, Rani's story is a lesson in human resilience and keeping courage in the face of adversity.
Captain of Women's Hockey Team, Rani Rampal's journey from poverty to Olympic glory made headlines when India reached the semifinal in 2020 Tokyo Olympics for the first time under her captaincy.
She led the Indian women's hockey team as captain in 2018 Asian Games, where they won a silver medal and was India's flag-bearer for the closing ceremony of the games.

Recipient of ‘Padma Shri’ award in 2020, in the same year, Rani also became the first hockey player in the world to win ‘World Games Athlete of the Year’.
She is also the recipient of ‘Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna’ and ‘Arjuna
Award’.
At the age of 15, she became the youngest player in the national team to have participated in the 2010 World Cup where she was conferred the ‘Best Young Player of the Tournament’ for her stellar performance as the top field goal scorer.
Under Rani’s inspiring leadership, India won a ‘bronze medal’ at the 2013 Junior World Cup where she was also adjudged the ‘Player of the Tournament’.
